World Economic outlook - UK economic condition forecast 2013 : The UK economy could suffer a "groundhog year" in 2013, a left-of-centre thinktank has warned, with little or no growth amounting to a rerun of last year's economic performance, when GDP is thought to have fallen 0.1%.

Other economists have predicted Britain will tumble into an unprecedented triple-dip recession and has a strong chance of being stripped of its prized AAA credit rating.

CBI latest UK GDP growth forecast 2012-2013

World Economic outlook - CBI latest UK GDP growth forecast 2012-2013 : Business leaders are predicting that growth will return to the UK economy towards the end of the year, and pick up a little pace during 2013.

The CBI’s latest quarterly economic forecast puts GDP growth in 2012 to be -0.3%, below its previous forecast in May of +0.6%. This reflects a more negative first half-year and a more modest rate of growth in the second half than was expected in May.

World Economic outlook imf forecast for UK economic growth 2012-2013 : The International Monetary Fund has downgraded its forecast for UK growth this year by more than any other developed nation and warned that the world economy is weakening.

The Washington-based organisation predicted on Monday that growth in the UK will all but evaporate in 2012 with a rise in GDP of just 0.2%, compared with a previous forecast of 0.8%.

World Economic outlook : Britain economic outlook first quarter 2012 : Britain’s economy may have shrunk more than previously estimated in the first quarter after the statistics office reported a deeper slump in construction.

Building output plunged 4.8 percent in the three months through March, the Office for National Statistics said today. That compares with a 3 percent drop in the first estimate of gross domestic product on April 25, which showed the economy contracted 0.2 percent. The revision on its own would shave 0.1 percentage points off GDP, the statistics office said.

Economic growth for 2012 will come in at a 'dismal' 0.4 per cent, according to the Ernst & Young ITEM club - half the 0.8 per cent predicted by the Office for Budget Responsibility.

UK manufacturing january - february 2012

World Economic outlook - UK manufacturing january - february 2012 : UK manufacturing output reduced by one per cent between January and February, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Today’s release of the Index of Production also showed manufacturing is 2.3% down compared to February 2011.

Since February last year eight manufacturing sub sectors have fallen, with four rising and one unchanged.

The weakest sectors have been rubber & plastics, which fell by 8.9%, while food, drink & tobacco fell by 2.4%.

Between January and February transport equipment and rubber and plastics were the biggest fallers.

Markets had been expecting a 0.1% month-on-month increase so the news has added to the gloom on equity markets, with the FTSE 100 down 0.56%.

The UK economy shrank at an annual rate of 1.2 per cent in the final three months of 2011 and will contract by 0.4 per cent in the first quarter of this year, it said. Two successive quarters of economic contraction is the technical definition of a recession.
