Consumer prices rose 2.0% in the 12 months to April, led by increases in transportation costs. This increase followed a 1.9% rise in March.

Canadian GDP growth in January 2012

World Economic outlook - Canadian GDP growth in January 2012 : Canada's national economic output expanded in January, although at a slower pace than the month before. Statistics Canada says gross domestic product grew by 0.1 per cent in January after a 0.5 per cent jump the month before.

The manufacturing sector expanded for the fifth consecutive month, growing by 0.7 per cent. The total output from the sector has grown to nearly $170 billion dollars per month from a recession low of around $147 billion.

World Economic outlook - Canada manufacturing growth february 2012 : The pace of growth in Canadian manufacturing picked up modestly in February after weakening the previous month, helped by a pickup in output and new orders despite a fall in export demand.

The RBC Canadian Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index, released on Thursday, edged up to a reading of 51.8 in February from 50.6 in January. While the index was above the 50-point mark that separates expansion from contraction, it was still the second weakest since the survey began in October 2010.

World Economic outlook - Canada inflation rate, consumer price index december 2011 : Canada’s inflation rate slowed more than economists forecast in December as increases in gasoline prices continued to fade and automobile costs fell.
The consumer price index increased 2.3 percent in December from a year earlier following November’s 2.9 percent rise, Statistics Canada said today in Ottawa. The increase was the smallest since February and below all 23 estimates in a Bloomberg News economist survey with a median of 2.7 percent.

World Economic outlook - Canadian housing market november 2011 : The Toronto housing market slipped back into sellers’ territory in November, helping propel prices even higher to a record average of $481,305.

That’s a 2.1 per cent increase from October and, when adjusted for seasonal fluctuations, almost 10 per cent more than the average GTA home was worth a year ago, according to figures released Thursday by the Canadian Real Estate Association.

"The western provinces will lead the growth ladder," said Doug Porter, deputy chief economist with BMO Capital Markets. "They are in better fiscal shape and continue to see strong inflows of people."

Porter, BMO chief investment officer Paul Taylor and BMO global currency and public policy strategist Andrew Busch offered their thoughts on the economic outlook for 2012 in a conference call Thursday.

World Economic outlook - Canadian Employment  rate november 2011 : Canadian employers continued to trim payrolls in November, driving the nation's unemployment rate up 0.1% to 7.4%, official data showed Friday.

Following a notable decrease the previous month, employment edged down 19,000 in November, wholly on a decrease in part-time positions, Statistics Canada said. Economists expected the economy to generate more than 20,000 jobs.

Canada GDP growth forecast 2012

World Economic outlook - Canada GDP growth forecast 2012 : Bucking the trend of major economies, Canada checked in Wednesday with its strongest quarterly growth since the start of 2010. The Canadian economy grew at an annualized rate of 3.5 percent in the third quarter of this year, led by stronger exports and housing investment, said Statistics Canada.

Analysts had forecast growth of 3.0 percent after last quarter's decline in gross domestic product (GDP) of 0.5 percent. By comparison, real GDP in the United States grew at a 2.0 percent pace in the third quarter, and Europe may be in a recession.

World Economic outlook - Canada Inflation Rate Outlook 2012 : Consumer prices advanced 2.9 percent in October from a year earlier, Statistics Canada said Nov. 18, and the central bank predicts inflation will slow to 1 percent by the middle of next year. The central bank sets rates to keep prices advancing in the middle of a 1 percent to 3 percent range.

Canada Economic growth outlook 2012 - 2013

World Economic outlook - Canada Economic growth outlook 2012 - 2013 : Canada's parliamentary budget officer is predicting slower economic growth and higher unemployment than the Harper government and says the country probably won't balance its books until 2016-17 at the earliest.

In a report released Tuesday, Kevin Page, the government spending watchdog, has substantially downgraded his economic and fiscal forecasts from earlier this year. He offers a more conservative assessment of the country's economy than the Tory government.
