World Economic outlook - Kenya  inflation rate december 2011 : Kenya's year-on-year inflation rate dropped marginally in December for the first time in more than a year to 18.93 percent from 19.72 per cent in November, official data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) showed.

The Consumer Price Index rose 0.74 per cent in December compared with a 1.52 per cent increase a month earlier, according to KNBS statistics released Wednesday.

Food and non alcoholic drinks' index went up by 0.78 per cent, a net effect of both increases and falls in the prices of a number of food products.

The cost of electricity and fuel decreased in December as a result of reduced fuel and forex adjustment charges. However, despite the decrease in fuel prices, the cost of transport still went up during the month as a result of a rise in public transport fares. Fare prices generally increase during holiday periods due to increased demand as many people travel for the festivities.
