Pakistan CPI inflation rate january 2012

World Economic outlook - Pakistan CPI inflation rate january 2012 , pakistan Consumer Price Index january 2012, : The Consumer Price Index (CPI) based inflation monitor has judged that CPI inflation has jumped to double digit in January 2012 after an increase of 1.54 percent over the month of December 2011 largely because of spike in the prices of food commodities, according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Chicken and other food prices have been the major reason of 1.54 percent increase in inflation and due to it the CPI inflation increased to 10.76 percent during July-January 2011-12 over the same period of last year.

Officials of the PBS admit that inflation would have been relatively higher if the impact of monthly Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) on electricity bills was also included in the statistics, which was not possible largely because the government began charging FPA from the consumers much after the computation of CPI on new base year (2007-08).

Now it is not possible for the PBS to include fuel price adjustment charges in the group of commodities and services and the impact of charges has not been reflected in the monthly CPI, they added.

The inflation in Pakistan is relatively higher in regional comparison after Bangladesh was conceded by the Finance Ministry before the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet and would be further fueled by the latest hike in petroleum and liquefied products prices. PBS Secretary Sohail Ahmed who released figure of monthly headline inflation said that impact of petroleum, LPG, and gas prices increase would be reflected in the next month, February 2012 CPI.
